To apply for a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) in Texas, the following requirements must be met:
- Be a resident of the state of Texas.
- Be able to communicate in English (advance level is not necessary).
- Pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination (medical card).
Obtaining a CDL is possible starting at 18 years old. Additionally, to work outside the home state, you must be at least 21 years old.
There are 3 classes of CDL that certify specialized qualifications for driving specific types of vehicles. At CDL-PRO, we offer training to obtain two classes of licenses:
- Class A – allows you to operate combination vehicles (tractor + trailer) where the total weight exceeds 26,000 pounds.
- Class B – is suitable for operating commercial vehicles without trailers, where the total weight exceeds 26,000 pounds.
At CDL-PRO, we provide training for both automatic and manual transmission trucks, based on your preference. If you take the road test in a truck with an automatic transmission, your CDL will only permit you to drive vehicles of this type.
